JSAFOG – Genesis & Journey

Journal of South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (JSAFOG) is a scientific, open access, double-blind peer-reviewed platform for exchange of professional activities, clinical practice guidelines, operative skill updates, and nursing midwifery practices among member countries. The journal aims to provide platform for members to have access to latest and the best scientific, peer-reviewed, and clinically- oriented knowledge suitable to the specific needs of the region.The prestigious SAFOG Journal saw the light of the day way back in 2009 with the efforts and vision of Prof Rashid Latif, (Emeritus Editor), Narendra Malhotra(Founder editor), Rubina Sohail, and Alokendu Chatterjee(Chairman of Journal Committee). Dr Narendra Malhotra had the vision to bring out the journal to promote more studies from SAFOG region and to promote research in SAFOG countries and made contract with esteemed Jaypee publishers. Initially the editors saw a day when they used to personally ask friends to send researches in the journal and many times write themselves to bring out the issue timely. issues were released per year. Jaideep Malhotra Editor-in-chief since 2015 till present.

SAFOG team intends to make this journal the most relevent and comprehensive for the doctors’ practicing in the South Asian and the South East Asian region.

  • The journal aims to become a monthly journal by the year 2023.
  • The journal looks forward to being self-sustainable.
  • The journal also aims to start a CME program for its members.
The journal started 2019 with a bang by bringing in six issues a year which means a new issue every second month. In 2022 we still continue all our efforts into improving the quality, popularity, and regularity of the journal.
As the journey continued, the vision and mission to do well increased, and in 2018 journal came up with two special issues and four regular issues.
JSAFOG started 2016 with the ambition to become a quarterly journal as it was publishing only thrice a year previously. It didn’t only aim to publish four times a year but did well by publishing numerous articles in each issue
In early 2015 when the journal was in its 7th year of publication, Dr Narendra Malhotra finished his tenure as editor-in-chief. This position was filled by Dr Jaideep Malhotra, the current editor-in- chief.
During this period Professor Dr Ruchika Garg from SN Medical College,Agra joined as Joint Editor till date.She worked hard to help journal attain more indexing, quality articles and regularity of journal
JSAFOG got indexed in SCOPUS. It developed with the constant support of SAFOG members, especially the editorial team, who kept a critical eye on the published content, followed the ethical guidelines, and scrutinized the article based on its contribution to the journal's scope

JSAFOG was instituted in 2009, with the intention of providing a platform for sharing professional experiences to enhance others’ knowledge in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The journal included a theme based DVD with each issue which made the journal famous for this unique feature and improved its uptake by the medical colleges and institutional libraries globally.
